Extremely bright. Too bright, like a keyboard backlight. Stick a yellow sticky note on the lamp output and it will dim it nicely. Later I will use a photo gel or something similar to dim the light. The stem flexes very well and holds its shape very well, allowing me to direct the light away from my eyes onto the keyboard. The photo below shows a lamp with a yellow tag attached to dim the light. Alternatively you can attach it to the end of a small, medium or large battery pack and light up the entire tent with just one of these lights. Connected to a small rechargeable unit, it can make a good flashlight. You can use it in the car as a 12V to USB converter, but the light will be *very* bright and annoying in the car at night. It would be nice if it had a) a dimmer or b) colored translucent caps to reduce the light output and change the color of the light. However, they are solidly built, work well and are very affordable.
