I'm sure it would work great for someone else. Unfortunately it didn't work for me. I have an MBP 2018 and a LG Ultrafine 5k monitor. My work laptop is an HP Elitebook 840 G6. The original Thunderbolt 3 cable that came with the monitor works great with my MBP. Connects instantly. I needed something similar for my work laptop on the same monitor. Since the USBC jack on the HP laptop is only for standard 2.0 charging, I figured the original Thunderbolt 3 cable that came with the monitor wouldn't work. So I've been looking for USBC 3.1 going from monitor to HDMI on a laptop for a long time. This cable was meant to be for me and worked for me. Unfortunately it didn't work for me. This is because USBC 3.1 is NOT the same as Thunderbolt 3. It was only when I consulted an Apple tech that he informed me that I needed Thunderbole 3 to work with my HP laptop and LG monitor. . They told me to look for something with a lightning bolt icon. That's how you talk. Coming back to this product, it just didn't work for me because it didn't have the features. So I finally got it to work when I accidentally (not sure why I didn't do this sooner and saved myself the hassle) plugged the original cable from the monitor, Thunderbolt 3, into the USBC port on my HP laptop and it worked . Not sure how it works when the USBC output is only 2.0, but I think Thunderbolt 3 nailed it.
