Microstuds are a must have when hiking in my opinion. Every year people fall down the mountain near my house because of unexpected black ice. The fact that the sun came out doesn't mean the earth wasn't frozen. I've taken them for one-two day hikes as well as derelict parking lots at ski resorts. I wear women's shoes 9.5 / men's 8 and bought a large size. I followed the size chart which was accurate. They went very easily and went well with the tracks of the boots. They appear to be well made and I don't see any damage when I walk on them. I don't currently see anything in production that would lead me to believe they will fail. They're a bit heavy, so if you're traveling long distances or are just the guy who measures pack weight to the gram, you might want to compare the options more. However, for general use when you don't want to slip and fall on the road, or as a safety measure on a short hike, they should be fine. They came with a great little storage bag for when you need to keep them in the car or protect other gear.
