I bought this open toe foot because it gives you a good view of where the needle is going, which is very important when quilting in the trench. It worked great until it started falling apart. The footboard fell off first. I'm pretty handy so I figured out how to attach it and tightened the metal knobs that hold it in place. It worked for a while and then again; I got dressed a little more. Then a small screw fell out. I saw that it went into the white case (the same is on the other side) and tried to put it back in place with a tiny Phillips screwdriver while the leg was still on the car. I couldn't get it to "bite" so I removed the entire assembly and took a better look. This showed me that a tiny screw goes into the arm that holds the footrest. I tightened it, attached the footrest (I thought so), put the assembly back on the machine and continued sewing. Then I started hearing noises that didn't sound like the parts were moving smoothly, and then the footrest fell off again! It may be more difficult to see where the needle is, but it may not fall apart. By the way, I like the fork lever attached to the needle bar to control the upper feed dog combs (more reliable than individual, one-piece). a forked stem that sits on top and can get stuck) and a quilting guide needle that fits snugly into the back of the white case. Great features, just not well done. Too bad. Of course it's made in China.
