Malfunction - Cannot be cleaned under the metal rim

Positive: grinds spices very well, not too noisy, large capacity. Impractical: See photo, there is a metal rim at the top of the plastic cover which is NOT airtight. Ground spices get there, and when ground, spice dust flies out, forming a mess. The silicone gasket is properly seated when grounded (taken for photo). I can't wash the spices out from under that strip of metal, but the water is definitely getting in there, so I now have a pile of wet spices under that strip that will probably get moldy. NOT a good thing. Not sure if I can return it as I've used it about 3 times. But you don't want to keep a moldy little device (it's brand new!). Either a design flaw or a factory defect.
