Review on πŸ”§ Ultimate Grip and Comfort: Brooks England Cambium Rubber Bar Tape Unveiled by Chris Pettway

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Possibly the best Brooks Tape

I've used most, but not all, of the Brooks bar tape offerings over the past few years. I would say this is the best in terms of functionality and cost. Here's the synopsis: 1. Brooks England microfiber bar tape is a joke. It's the same as what other brands sell for nine bucks. In some cases this is somewhat equivalent to their saddle leather, but that is the only good quality.2. Brooks Saddles Leather Bicycle Bar Tape with Plugs (Honey) tape is good or bad. I had at least two sets of this tape because I really wanted my saddle to match the tape on the handlebars. But the quality varied: sometimes it was smooth treated leather (some said fake), and sometimes it was a "natural" texture. The smooth leather strap has a synthetic feel that's why I stopped buying it because see point 1 above.3. Now about this tape: I like it. It's rubbery and grippy and has a nice natural, or at least neutral color. I don't like bright colors in my setup, which usually means black tape when it comes to rubber. So it is a good alternative to a neutral color. It's not very expensive and functionally comparable to lizard skins, which can be expensive. (Although Lizard Skins have more padding.) Yes, you will lose the look and feel of leather, and no, it will not fit your Brooks Honey saddle. But even if it wasn't a Brooks brand, I'd happily use this tape. I will almost certainly buy it again.
