It's solid, but only if.

After a lot of research, measurements and calculations, I bought this item in the 22 inch version. It took a bit of engineering to bolt it to the floor in my '91 XJ, but it eventually made it to the kit. To avoid wobbling, it's important to attach the 3/8 inch aluminum rod that is inside the plastic cap to both the top and bottom. Do not fix the plastic cover, the cable clamp is included but not very effective. Instead, cut off the plastic cap where you want to attach the stem, the closer to the top end the better, slide the plastic cap back, then secure the stem itself with a 3/8" plastic harness clip and leave slide the plastic cap back into place. Then she's stuck. Bend the rod fairly close to where you want it before screwing it on. The comments you have read here about the ends of the item being broken is due to them screwing the item on and then trying to get the rod into place. Get pretty close before installing. The only thing I didn't like was the phone holder itself. It's plastic and probably a little flimsy. With a little engineering, you can install any phone or tablet holder you like. This thing will be easy to hold the tablet. and drill if you have the necessary tools. unt is fairly stationary. If you keep flexing the bar, I think it's going to break eventually. If you need a mount that needs to be constantly moved, this probably isn't the one for you. So I recommend this article, but only if you're not going to ask it to do something it's not designed to do. If you can't fix it at the top and bottom I wouldn't buy it, I think it's going to be too wobbly, at least for my purposes.
