Review on πŸ”¨ Professional Splitting Hammer - Head H 3009 by Steve Brethorst

Complete garbage. Don't buy if you plan to actually use your sledgehammer.

Bought with a hammer and heard the overload protection rumble when unpacking. I figured it should be fine, and there was no way I could spend more than $100 on junk. I used it once and quickly saw head movement due to improper suspension and loosening. I submitted a replacement request and apparently received my replacement before the old one was inspected and the replacement approved or denied. I decided to only use this new one once to test it and found the same thing. The head is not properly suspended at all. Too much material between the top of the handle protruding through the head and the guard allowing the head to move up and down the handle when in use ultimately creating looseness and movement. I don't even need to say the bottom line considering it happened within minutes of using both sledgehammers. I've had $25-$40 hammers from the hardware store that didn't have this problem and were less of a problem. This was not due to unusual or heavy usage. I noticed the movement of the original sledgehammer only to pull it out of the wood when it would sometimes get stuck and not fully split. I thought a brand with a good reputation like oxenkopf would deliver a really well made product but that doesn't seem to be the case. I will go ahead and ask for a full refund and send this replacement back. I'll just use cheap Mexican sledgehammers as they know better how to hang an axe/sledgehammer than "the oldest ax smiths in Germany".
