Review on Moog 8455B King Pin Set by Ronny Welch

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Perfect, just what I needed for a 1964 Ford F100

I recently had to change the kingpins on my 1964 Ford F100. Revain.com had the best price I could find online for this kit. Upon opening this kit it turned out that all parts are made of high quality materials and well finished and when I installed them they fit perfectly without any modifications and after installation my truck's performance improved noticeably. .Removing and installing the king pin can be a difficult and time consuming task. I know many people will do this in a shop, but I have a feeling this can be done by most recreational mechanics if you take your time and pay attention to the details. I prefer to do as much car maintenance myself as possible, so I prefer to do it myself. I used a loan service from O'Reilly Auto to borrow a ball joint removal/installation kit and it fitted perfectly me. My old kingpins were very badly clamped, but I was able to loosen them with the kit. To save time you can remove the axle and take it to a shop, but I saved some money by doing it myself. The O'Reilly kit is also great for popping old bushings out of spindles and sliding in new ones. The Moog kit comes with higher quality bronze bushings (compared to the nylon bushings used in cheaper kits) so you will need to drill them out before reassembly. Again the store can do this for you but I found a reamer for a good price and made it myself. Overall I was very satisfied with this kit, all components are high quality and well made. Moog has a reputation for making quality products, and rightly so. I also bought Moog tie rod ends and they were just as well made and high quality. Again, the kingpin removal/installation process can be quite labor intensive for a home mechanic, but it can be done and I highly recommend using a Moog kit. While I hope I never have to replace a kingpin again, I will definitely use Moog parts again should the need arise.
