Very bad design

I have to say I was very disappointed with this product. I bought this because I wanted to protect the aluminum sides and edges of my Atomos Ninja V recorder/monitor. I bought it used and it has already picked up a few small scratches along the way and it seemed like the perfect way to protect it. Since my entire video system is built around a camera frame, it seemed logical to protect my precious Atomos in the same way. I assumed that the Andycine cage would fit perfectly and that there must be some sort of clamping mechanism holding it securely in place. Well, the only "clamps" are two threaded bolts on one side of the cage that bite right into the Atomos fairing when tightened. This is an amateurish approach at best. I wanted to protect Atomos, not damage them! The worst thing is that even with the screws in place and tightened, the monitor can still pop out. Unbelievable! This is partly due to poor frame design and partly because those two screws are only on one side of the monitor. It occurred to me that with the monitor frame attached to the top handle of my camera, having a screw running from the monitor mount on the handle through the frame and into the threaded socket on the underside of the Atomo would provide assurance that Andycine was only the cage not t. Unfortunately, my monitor mount uses a 1/4" captive screw and the cage has a 3/16" socket. I could use an adapter sleeve to mount it, but then the screw wouldn't go all the way through the separator and into the atomos. This way the cage is securely attached to the rig but the Atomos can still fly out of the cage if someone hits the rig too hard. And what's the point of buying a cage if it doesn't protect what it's designed to do? Return for a refund.

Pros
  • โ— Light weight and protects your monitors โ— Aluminum frame. Only at 6.24 oz without lens hood. The whole cage protects your monitor from bumps and scratches. The threaded holes reduced the weight and increased space for the separator
Cons
  • No paint required
