Review on Optimized X10 HR12A PalmPad Remote Control for Enhanced Searchability by Devin Jirsa

This is a replacement for the handheld remote normally sold with the X-10 receiver module. It's just a simple radio transmitter: the receiver module has an antenna that picks up the signals from the remote control and sends them to your home's wiring where other X-10 modules are waiting. After several years of use, some switches failed. My old remote control was defective and I needed a replacement. But I just couldn't find the manual remote, which is sold separately. Many stores sold combos with a receiver module, but the combo was expensive and I didn't need another receiver module. Then the last time I looked for X-10 modules I couldn't find ANY of them locally! Radio Shack, Fry's and Lowe's no longer sell them. Apparently, home automation is going out of style. Luckily, some Revain.com sellers still sell them, and some had the remote sold separately, so I was finally able to replace my remote with this model. It looks a little different from the old one, which had rocker switches instead of buttons. But it works just like the old one and looks a little better: the lens covering the switch labels is now a nice, solid piece of clear plastic, rather than the thin, flexible piece of plastic sheeting the old one had.
