When I was a child in the 80s, we were allowed to play outside or visit our neighbors without any worries. My husband used to ride his bike all over the area. We live in a pretty quiet work area and I think if anyone hears this they'll be quick to come out to see what's going on. I also hung one in the front door so a burglar could pull the pin out in the event of a break-in. Attackers are more likely to avoid getting into difficult situations. It's not a complete security solution, but it's affordable enough that anyone can get one for their kids.
