Exceeded expectations

WOW! While there are haters out there about third party headlight assemblies, I was blown away after installing them on our 2013 Elantra. The original factory cases have turned yellow and tarnished despite attempts to restore them, so it's time to just replace them. When I saw the VLAN design on the internet, I decided to give it a try. The LED haloes with high/corner switch are stunning and give the Elantra a very sinister appearance day and night, more in keeping with the body's angular aesthetic. I installed the most powerful LED bulbs I could find in the low beam and they are more than adequate without overwhelming oncoming traffic. Yes, the low beam is set too low from the factory, but that's why there are adjustments, and for installers who may never take the time to get it right, the downward beam initially ensures oncoming vehicles aren't dazzled. Installation was pretty easy, but removing old builds and installing new builds takes patience and perseverance. Just follow one of the many online guides to remove them. VLAN assemblies are ideal. I found a small problem when I got to the passenger side power outlet, the power outlet was set at 180 degrees and there were keyways on the body that didn't allow the power plug to easily rotate to fit. Luckily, I found that the socket on the VLAN housing can be detached, rotated once partially recessed into the housing, and then reinstalled and repaired. Easy to fix. FYI, the VLAN units have the ability to connect to an auto-leveling system, but the Elantra doesn't have that, so I just removed the power connector from the unit. FYI, as previously mentioned, the units come with no instructions other than pointing out how to adjust aiming. While not clearly stated, ONLY the low beam bulbs (i.e. projector bulbs) are interchangeable and NONE are included with the lens. The lamp body is solid metal so they can handle the heat from halogen and HID lights, again I've opted for a high power LED. ALL other headlights, including high beam, are NOT interchangeable and are factory installed. Let's hope non-replaceable LEDs last a very long time. I was a bit curious if the high beams actually provide additional illumination, as they consist of three individual high-power LEDs that shine on a series of complex optical reflectors. Again, I was shocked at how far they shine and whether the long-distance rays are focused. With high beam, both high beam and low beam work. As with low beam, high beam will NOT blind oncoming traffic, which is good as there are NO adjustments for high beam direction. A very happy customer!
