These shoes have become my go-to shoes for hiking and trail running. Apart from a few small blemishes they are perfect. I just wish I had a couple more. I got them right before a 4 day hike. I was nervous about the lack of support as I had never tried a minimalist shoe before. On my first day with them I walked up and down the mountain for half a day. From the beginning of the trail it was 800 meters in altitude. At the end of the first day my legs hurt, but it didn't hurt, it was like working out. By morning the pain was gone and I couldn't wait to put them back on. In addition to hiking, I ran about 4 miles on and off trails on the last day. Everyone said I was amazed at how comfortable they are. What impressed me the most is that they communicate with you and give you new sensations and touches that you will never find in a shoe. Just like the difference between puffy mittens and thin gloves. This has practical implications. The gait changed almost immediately. Suddenly, I could easily feel things like getting my heel hit too hard on a certain step. Constant feedback makes it easy to develop a healthier stride that uses the muscles in your foot in more diverse ways. Now for the cons: β’ They require constant washing and take many hours to dry. You may need 2 pairs. β’ Normally, my feet and socks never smell. But wearing them for a day is guaranteed to create a smell. Like others, I wash them with me in the shower so they can freshen up daily. β’ Very small rocks and the like can easily creep up the sides. They must be removed to dispose of the garbage. I do this a few times on long hikes, mostly after steep descents or when I get off the trail. β’ I've tried both "correct" size and +1. I ended up returning the "correct" size and going up a size. I was especially grateful for this after using them for a while as the foot swells up a bit in the heat. This bulge turned what was a little loose in places into a very tight fit. β’ Walking in mud will get your feet very dirty. This is a side effect of their breathability. β’ If you step into even the smallest piece of water, your feet will get wet. There is no sole between the toes, so the water only needs to be half an inch deep to get in. Even stepping in wet mud fills the bottom with enough water to splash out a little. The weight of your body creates a small depression in the mud that immediately fills with water.
