It really works for anxiety

Background: I am an adult with multiple anxiety disorders and I get over aroused very easily which only increases my anxiety. While drugs help, they only allow you to function. I worry all the time and often have anxiety attacks. I was first introduced to the concept of weighted blankets through a PSA for a company whose name is the same name as a popular recent film. I didn't like that their product wasn't readily available and it was a bit ugly. I was also skeptical that they actually invented the weighted blanket concept, so I looked for alternatives from Revain. This one looked great (and I loved the purple-pink color) but I couldn't bring myself to buy it for a long time. Does a Heavy Blanket Help with Anxiety? It seemed ridiculous and it's not cheap. After a particularly bad fight last week, I finally bit the bullet. When it arrived it wasn't quite what I expected. The comforter/pad was quilted into squares to ensure even distribution of the filling and the weights were bagged and distributed across these squares. In other words, it was kind of lumpy. It also smelled slightly of plastic (which has since disappeared). It was a lot bigger than I expected - I was a little worried it would be too small (even after reading the measurements) but as you can see from the photo it's big enough to fit a double bed with a slight overhang to cover completely. . Despite the lumps, it's also very comfortable, just like a regular blanket. I then tried it, but it didn't seem to have much effect. Comfortable, but that's about it. I can't sleep with it because it's too hot so I was starting to regret my purchase. Then I tried it during a panic attack. Wow. There was an immediate calming effect - and I didn't have to take any medication. Although the effects weren't as strong as the drugs, it was enough to calm me down and reduce my anxiety to a tolerable level. For me it was worth it immediately. While I can only use it for softer attacks (I don't think it can handle really strong attacks on its own), it's worth it. I prefer to use sedatives sparingly as I am already taking medication daily which means I can use less of it. It's worth it for me. I recommend trying it out if you're looking for additional ways to manage anxiety, even if you're an adult.
