Good bright bulbs: LED bulbs

These bulbs work well. Didn't get them for color matching but I checked and the colors seem good. But I really don't feel like working in blue, red or green light. I bought these bulbs for their 900 lumens of brightness and at full brightness they are very bright. You also have the option to control their color temperature so that the light is white, amber or anywhere in between. I have a few setup suggestions to avoid problems. The lamp I use has 4 bulbs. I decided to only install one of my four lamps during the renovation. It probably wasn't necessary but when setting up the bulb goes out after 3 minutes so I'll probably have to put the bulbs into setup mode more than once as I'm not fast enough to set up all 4 bulbs in 3 minutes. To put the bulb into setting mode, flip the power switch to ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON and after a few seconds delay, the bulb will flash on and off. Don't try to rush the power button when you flip it. In the OFF-ON-OFF parts I would wait about a second at each switch position. I think at first I flicked the switch too quickly and the bulb didn't go into setting mode. You adjust the lightbulb with the Smart Life app on your smartphone. Make sure your phone is connected to the 2.4GHz network! I knew the bulbs were only connected to the 2.4GHz network, but I didn't realize that the phone had to be on that network as well (but only for setup). The reason is that the Smart Life app will automatically get the network name from the phone. So if your phone is connected to your 5GHz network, Smart Life will use the wrong network name. Next, in Smart Life + (what to add a device), select Lighting, Light Source (WiFi). After entering the network password, you will be taken to a page with a blinking light. If you haven't already, toggle ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON at this point and make sure the light is flashing quickly. Now you will see a big blue button that says "Continue" but it is grayed out. Directly above it is very small text that reads "Confirmation Light Blinking Fast" (actually, a lightbulb should be read instead of the light). You must click on this text for the Next button to become active. There is no tick or other indication that this is true and it took me a while to figure it out. After pressing the "Next" button, the bulb will be programmed and added to Smart Life. If you have multiple lightbulbs like I do, you'll probably want to group them so they all behave as one. It's not very obvious how to do that. At this point you have a page with all your lightbulbs listed. Click on any you want to add to the group and you'll be presented with a page where you can control that lightbulb. There is a pencil in the upper right corner of this page. Click on the pencil and you will see a page where you can create a group. When that's done, the group's name will be listed alongside your lightbulbs, and you can control the group just like you would a lightbulb. There is another way to customize the lightbulb which I will mention. If you do ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON twice in a row, the light will flash slowly. In this mode, the lightbulb actually becomes a WiFi source and you connect your phone to that unsecured WiFi. The WiFi name would be obvious, but I don't remember exactly what it is. I set up a lightbulb this way and all I remember is that it was obvious what to do. The last thing you might want to do is add a lightbulb control to Alexa. You do this by adding Smart Life Skill to the Alexa app.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
