Review on Saucony Originals Sneaker Charcoal Orange by Jeff Driscoll

Good shoes but too fragile.

I have been looking for an inexpensive, good looking and functional pair of vegan sneakers for years and am feeling a bit hypocritical about being a vegetarian in leather. When I saw these guys I thought this might be just what I was looking for. Inexpensive, beautiful, fits well, comfortable. unfortunately they wear out very quickly. About a month later, a hole appeared in the mesh over the toes. As far as I know I didn't catch him doing anything, he just showed up and grew every week. It was a normal daily walk to work, shopping etc. No running or loitering through the thorny undergrowth. A few longer walks but nothing special. At this rate, especially with winter approaching and I'm a year round cyclist/walker I don't think they can be worn for the next 2 months. Last time I wore Adidas Sambas. forever, and I used to wear them out at the rate of a pair a year. I admit I find it difficult to wear shoes as I walk a lot but my sambas have never worn anywhere except on the sole under the ball of the foot. Not being able to afford a new pair of shoes every 3 months makes me feel like I'm returning to the skin I've been trying to escape from for ten years. This has happened to me several times when I was striving for vegan shoes, every pair I get seems inadequate, overpriced or just plain poor quality (or a combination) and I end up wearing shoes again that I know that they fit. better than all others by reducing the cost of a wasted pair of shoes. When they become unwearable I MAYBE try another pair and hope for the best as this is the best vegan option I've seen and I really want to do my due diligence before going back to leather.

Pros
  • very impressive
Cons
  • doubtful
