Toothpaste made me burn my mouth

I need a mint free toothpaste and thought I'd try this one. Ordered a long time ago and opened today. Something terrible burned my mouth and my throat hurt immediately; like mint toothpaste. It's too late to return it, so I have to throw it away. I'm not sure what ingredient I was reacting to, but this is bad.
