These are my favorite headphones now. I also have a Beyer DT880 and a Sennheiser HD-5xx with felt pad modification. Beyer comfort aside, these are still good, comfortable headphones. The Monoprice is well made including two pads and decent clamping pressure but the relative heaviness is what it is. Slam - no comparison, period. It has peaks and it's not bloated bass and it doesn't color the mids. Balance - it does not need an equalizer. These aren't bright headphones - they're even and not sharp. Some might call it warm, but I wouldn't. It definitely seems brighter than the standard HD-5xx, but not with the mod. Beyer is the brightest of the three. I have EQ curves for two other headphones. With the Harman Curve EQ on my other headphones, the Monoprice sounds a bit brighter. This is more to my liking as I usually like an extra decibel or so in the upper highs when using the EQ. So for me it's just perfect. Efficiency is surprisingly the most efficient of the three. I have a Sabaj headphone amp and it displays dB levels. That's about 10dB better than the Beyer and 2dB better than the HD-5xx, which is a few dB more efficient than the other models in the HD-600 range. Permit. It's a whole different league. Combined with balance, this really reproduces the timbre of the instruments and separates them in acoustic space with a natural and wide stereo effect. As I played Carmina Burana, it seemed to me that I could distinguish individual voices in a huge chorus. The rest didn't even come close. Of the other two headphones, I find that the Beyer has more resolution than the Senn. So without EQ I would take these first and Beyers last for their bright highs. Senn is the last.
