Great sounding open-back headphones, can't be beat for the price I paid!

These headphones sound fantastic, with high detail and precise response, on par with 1K models from major brands. Good sound stage and "air", the best in this price range so far. They have an open design so you want to be in a quiet place where those around you can hear you clearly. Build quality is acceptable but not perfect, and they're moderately heavy with minimal clamping force. So if you have a small head, they are loose fitting. If you don't mind a little improvement in headband quality…

definitely worth the money

Not only do these headphones sound great, they are also very comfortable. The quality of the headband leaves a lot to be desired but unlike some others I have no issues with the clip as I have a larger than average head. The sound has a certain breadth. I think it's because it's a large planar driver? The bass is very good and very deep, but never muddy. The highs are not sharp. The sound can be described as pleasant. The case in which he performed is a joke. It is gigantic and over 50% larger…

Great price great sound

When I got them they were listed a hundred below the suggested retail price for some reason. I've had my eye on planar headphones for a long time, but many of them are priced well above what some would consider reasonable. Although I only have the DT-990 and DT-770 to really compare them, the M1070 are my favorites now. They don't have the weirdness in the upper frequencies that the DT-990 has. That the M1070 practically uses a standard pluggable cable is a big plus. Strangely, the more…

Not the upgrade I was hoping for compared to the 1060c mod!

I was trying to find direct comparisons between a modified m1060c and a m1070. So if you're like me and have a pair of m1060cs that you've modified to open, I can give you my thoughts. I found, like many others, that the standard 1060c sounded ok, but once you turn it from closed to open it's world class. The highs are smoothed out in more detail, the mids are pushed forward in the mix, and the bass is amazing anyway, but the open bass is just as big and loud, but much more refined. The fit is…

Cotton, Balance, Efficiency and Resolution

These are my favorite headphones now. I also have a Beyer DT880 and a Sennheiser HD-5xx with felt pad modification. Beyer comfort aside, these are still good, comfortable headphones. The Monoprice is well made including two pads and decent clamping pressure but the relative heaviness is what it is. Slam - no comparison, period. It has peaks and it's not bloated bass and it doesn't color the mids. Balance - it does not need an equalizer. These aren't bright headphones - they're even and not…

Good with EQ, quite good if not

"Monolith M1070" Played on a balanced XDUOO TA-10 XLR and I find them quite good, I didn't notice anything compared to Sundara (same price), they lack high end as they are a bit warmer but everything from bells to bells sounds a bit off, a bit darker/muted, still not bad to hear, i like them. I think male voices sound good on them as they have that deep rich characterization of their voice and they aren't badly placed either, they also underperform a bit in the soundstage, the mids have detail…

Great glider set!

The almighty (and obviously controversial) M1070. So here's the thing. I'll say right away that I'm an audio snob, so only the best sound touches my ears. But this time, I tried to stay within the $600 maximum budget. I'll divide these headphones into four groups: build, comfort, performance, and sound. CONSTRUCTION: Chunky but beautiful. It can feel fragile and not feel very stable at all. As mentioned by others, the headband has no tension out of the box. Clamps are made of bendable metal…

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • No paint required

THICK but transparent for in-ear headphones

Right now, as I write this, I have the headphones on my head. I'll try to be as brief as possible. My headphone story - I started with Superlux 681 Evos, moved to SHP9500 and then HD6xx. I've used the Bravo v2 tube headphone amps almost exclusively for the last 3 years and powered the 6xx with them. I have found that the amp adds energy to the upper parts of the music. I also used them on the m1070. In the future I plan to buy another amp, but for now I only have this one. I've been using m1070

  • Decent performance
