Review on 🎧 Monolith M1070 Over Ear Open Back Planar Headphones, Lightweight, Padded Headband, Soft and Detachable Earpads, 106mm Planar Driver, Black by Josh Valentino

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good with EQ, quite good if not

"Monolith M1070" Played on a balanced XDUOO TA-10 XLR and I find them quite good, I didn't notice anything compared to Sundara (same price), they lack high end as they are a bit warmer but everything from bells to bells sounds a bit off, a bit darker/muted, still not bad to hear, i like them. I think male voices sound good on them as they have that deep rich characterization of their voice and they aren't badly placed either, they also underperform a bit in the soundstage, the mids have detail but lack some clarity. compared to Sundara. Bass was ok, fast enough, deep enough, but lacked punch. Comfort wise they are a bit odd in their design, they look more like a football head lol had to flex them, glad they don't flex. I tried velvet upholstery, they're much more comfortable, but the sound was a little less rich, so put leather upholstery back on to listen. The cable that came with it was actually good, but I like to use balanced cables with planars. Well with all that said these are ez to EQ and they sound really good after fixing a few things to give them a good 4 star rating. Sub-bass with a bit more punch, wanted the vocals to be a bit more intimate but without losing instrumental detail and without the vocals becoming squeaky and a bit more tingly but not too whistling, with that in mind I cranked 31.3Hz 1.5 dB up (Sub) followed by a 0.5dB boost at 62.5Hz for some extra power and at 250Hz I increased it by 0.5dB to give the vocals more emphasis but the instruments lagged behind, so I even adjusted with a 0.5dB boost at 500Hz which makes vocals and instruments sound even, then a 0.5dB drop at 8kHz and then a 1.0dB increase at 16kHz. All of this made this headset sound like a dream* when played through the XDUOO TA-10 Hybrid Amplifier/DAC. They quickly became my favorite and addictive, but since I don't need to tweak the others I'll leave them as is.)
