When I got them they were listed a hundred below the suggested retail price for some reason. I've had my eye on planar headphones for a long time, but many of them are priced well above what some would consider reasonable. Although I only have the DT-990 and DT-770 to really compare them, the M1070 are my favorites now. They don't have the weirdness in the upper frequencies that the DT-990 has. That the M1070 practically uses a standard pluggable cable is a big plus. Strangely, the more expensive M1570 models don't come with a standard cable, which is something to watch out for. However, the M1070's headband can be a source of complaints. Downforce is relatively weak, especially with the factory velvet upholstery, so this may or may not be an issue for you. On the one hand, it's good that they don't try to crush your head, but if you move around in them a lot, chances are they won't stay in place. Oh, and take the 105mm leather and velvet combo earpads. by LTYIVABHTTW as others have mentioned. I think they really hit the sweet spot between factory leather and factory velvet overlays.
