Review on ๐Ÿงญ KanPas Mini Luminous Button Compass: Ideal Watch Band & Lanyard Accessory by Antonio Fox

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Review edited after 3 days - Verdict: A piece of crap, DO NOT BUY

Edit Edit: They sent me a second unit as a free replacement and it was full of air bubbles. RETURN BOTH and give up? idk if push button compasses can really be any good. Edit: My initial review is below but after 3 days of use I can tell you this thing is a piece of junk. With no metal or anything nearby to cause interference, the readings began to drop sharply. It's as if the magnet has changed orientation or position where it's attached to the dial. Don't buy this crap. First review: I'm comparing the accuracy of this thing to a Commenga 3H USGI compass and it's about 10 or 15 degrees off! Metal, batteries of any kind, well, and another compass. According to Kammenga, this shows very clearly 10 degrees counterclockwise from magnetic north. And Cammenga is right lol. But I think he's well built. The face scratches slightly, I realized as my cat chewed on it for a second and attacked my hand. I like the rubber loop for fastening. Much more convenient than plastic. And I suppose a more versatile fit with different sized straps. Half of the dial is lit, but the incandescent charge only lasts for a short time. This is a fairly inaccurate instrument, but I would say its accuracy is within expected accuracy for push button compasses. Maybe I got a bad one. I wish it had a dial so I could navigate properly and even correct the 10 degree error. I will say that this is a fairly accurate push button compass. It's always offset by about 10-15 degrees in azimuth. Always reads in the same direction. So not entirely accurate, but still fairly accurate - relatively speaking. It's a push button compass, after all! One thing you might notice about a compass on a watch strap is the tendency for the dial to get stuck halfway when you turn to reorient to north. This slight stuttering occurs when you have metal parts on the watch strap near the compass, such as a watch strap. the clasp that holds the bracelet ring, or the metal loops of the NATO strap, but it doesn't occur on a non-metal bracelet, provided the watch itself isn't close enough to get in the way. What happens is that the movement of the magnet on the dial causes a magnetic flux through any nearby metal, which in turn creates electrical eddy currents in the metal, magnetizing it in direct opposition to the field the currents have induced, the compass magnet. Therefore, a moving magnet tends to feel a counter pull from any metal that is close enough to significantly interact with its flow. For this reason, the compass on your watch strap does not point directly north. Any metal-bodied compass also shows a similar tendency to magnetically brake its own angular velocity, while plastic-bodied compasses are free to rotate. It is important to understand how magnetic fields interact with metal in close proximity before judging the performance of magnetic tools. It's very good, 5 stars from me. Will update when it sucks!
