These Rowland Harbor bags are large and lightweight. They are fabric-coated on the inside and are therefore water-repellent. But I wouldn't rely on them being waterproof. They smelled like plastic so I washed them all with soap and it looked like water was leaking when I poured it, but I had water everywhere so can't be 100% sure. However, the zip area is uncoated so I would rely on them being waterproof. We had to evacuate our home and one bag contained almost the entire contents of a 4 tier dresser. Straps are fine, but not necessarily designed for heavy items, especially considering how much stuff you can fit in them.
