These caster wheels were just what I needed for my smoker. I drilled holes in the bottom of the legs and was able to easily install and tighten them. Now I can move the smoker without outside help. Not heavy, but difficult to lift alone. And when it's hot, you can forget about this task. These wheels make things easy and I can say they are very smooth. It's 3 inches in diameter and I think that's the minimum size I would go for this type of setup. The latches on two of them also work perfectly. I can confirm that the shank diameter is 3/8" and the shank length is 1.5". For the money and for my needs this is a great purchase and I would recommend them for similar setups and uses.
