Too small to mend men's bags

The width of these bag repair kits is too small. I bought these to mend the side pockets of my husband's jeans. He keeps his smartphone and car keys in his jeans pockets, and all of his jeans had holes in the bottoms of the pockets. Following the instructions that came with the kits you should cut the bottom of the bag to be patched and place the patch over the cut bottom of the bag and then iron the top of the self-adhesive patch to flatten it. stick it to your bag. But you can't easily fit a cut pocket into a repair patch. The instructions say to fold the edge of the pocket to fit the patch, but that doesn't work very well. These self-adhesive pocket repair patches work well on children's or women's pants with narrower pockets. But they don't work with men's bags. I ended up making my own pocket patches out of denim and pressed cloth.
