This is my third time ordering this unit. They are FIVE stars when new but as many others have pointed out they go bad after 2-3 months of use. It has nothing to do with moisture in the tube (as some have suggested) because replacing the tube doesn't solve the problem. It has something to do with the attachment that screws into the speaker, because if you unplug the hose and then put it back into the speaker WITHOUT twisting and locking it, the volume is loud and clear. As soon as you screw the plug into the speaker, it goes back to 30%-40% volume and is very muffled. There is definitely a design flaw that needs fixing and I will happily give it the FIVE stars it deserves once that issue is fixed. But as another reviewer pointed out. If you only treat them as consumables (rather than durable gear) and only plan on spending $8 every few months, you'll be fine. It's an important piece of equipment to keep officers safe, but the economic benefit is still worthwhile.
