Review on Discover the Perfection of Maloca Alpaca: Ethical, Naturally Hypoallergenic Luxury by Jacob Diego

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Really good looking

I spend most of my time in Mongolia, the source of the world's best cashmere, and here it's available for pennies per dollar compared to western prices, so I've got it more cashmere scarves and sweaters, of course, than anyone has good reason to own. Given cashmere's stranglehold on the market here, I've never had the chance to try alpaca, so I was curious to take a look at this scarf when I saw it pop up. OK, I'm very impressed. First packing on +. The scarf is wrapped in several layers of fabric and comes into its own very well, so my first impression was perfect. As soon as I looked at the scarf I noticed that it was silkier than most of my cashmere fabrics, less in feel than in look. This fabric has a sheen that cashmere doesn't have, a richness in the way the light hits it. I like it. The color is great too. I have a deep navy blue that fades to navy blue. It actually looks better than the photos. As far as comfort is concerned, it is roughly on par with cashmere. It's just a little itchy on bare skin, but I usually find that to be the case with new cashmere as well, until it wears off a bit. I expect it will soften after wearing it a few times. I haven't taken it outside yet as it's Fahrenheit 12 and there aren't any wild horses dragging me out the door, but I've been wearing it in my (very warm) living room for half an hour and I'm pretty sure I have it is good will survive our winters which can drop to -40°F. I was sweating like I was wearing a cashmere scarf. So yes, it's a simple 5 star. I'm not going to throw away all my cashmere, but this very beautiful and comfy alpaca scarf will get no less use than my other scarves this winter.
