We bought two of these two years ago. We used them regularly. Our children love the projected images. However, as far as I recall, nowhere on the product or anywhere else was it said to only use soft or demineralized water. About a year ago I noticed chalk white dust in our boys' rooms. I always thought it was coming from our walls (we live in an old house). I bought air filters for my rooms because I was concerned about this dust. Found out it's coming from the humidifier. We have hard water, and hard water cannot be used in ultrasonic humidifiers without an absorbing filter! This product does not contain filters and should therefore only be used with soft or demineralised water. The calcium and magnesium in our hard water literally creates chalk in the room, and my kids inhaled that chalk. It's very frustrating that it's not that obvious on the product when you buy it or in the instructions. It should be in big, bold letters, don't use hard water. It talks about avoiding the use of essential oils, but nothing about hard water. I've been interested in this dust for two years and wonder why there is so much of it. The engine in one of the blocks has already failed - it makes a very loud engine noise, which others have complained about. So I searched on Revain and found the Vicks Starry Night humidifier and their ad says it can use hard water because it comes with a filter and then avoids "white dust". I wanted to post this review here so everyone with hard water will know that using this humidifier will cover your lungs with chalk!
