Review on 🔴 PokéBall Plus by Jaime White

Cool but needs an update!

This is a fun controller for the new Pokémon Let's Go games, but some aspects of this controller make it seem like Nintendo might need a firmware update. It's easy to get to the main menu and end the game session when using it as a controller. You have to use the joycon to get to the main menu or press the power button on the Switch. That's annoying, because if you're using the PBP as your main controller, the Switch won't let you plug in a professional controller, even if you just want to use it to get around the house. In game you can shake PBP to use it as X/Y button. This does not work when you are in combat. If you shake PBP to see attack details (Y), it doesn't work. I've also noticed this happening with other menus like the Suitcase. Seems like a minor oversight, but annoying. Seems to lack battery life. As far as I know there is no way to see the battery warning! The switch completely prevents you from using PBP to get to the main menu or quick settings menu, so you can't see the battery level icon. I have found that it lasts 5-6 hours and then suddenly dies. Luckily it seems to charge in about 2-3 hours (but it doesn't warn you when it's fully charged so I don't know). Pros: Software/firmware issues aside, so much fun to use! I love that it feels like I'm actually throwing a Poké Ball at Pokémon on my TV! The wrist strap and ring keep the PBP securely in your hands. The controller is also handy for moving around in the game, but sometimes it's difficult to orient your character because you're using a round joystick on a ball, so you often lose orientation when you move it slightly in your hands. Mew: Very simple. , you get a Mew for every Poké Ball Plus. It is related to the serial number. Once you claim Mew, that's it. You also can't reset nature, Pokémon Let's Go saves once you claim your Mew. You can't take your Pokémon for a walk until you have Mew, but otherwise you can claim Mew at any time in-game via the Social menu. Your Pokemon is mine by holding down the joystick. I also love that you can connect it to Pokémon Go and use it like an upgraded Pokémon Go Plus. Rumor has it that if you hook it up to Pokémon Go while you have a Pokémon on a walk from Pokémon Let's Go, that Pokémon will automatically rotate PokéStops for you! Bottom line: I think the Poké Ball Plus is a great and fun idea, but it definitely needs an update to smooth out the hiccups.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
