I'm just getting into machine embroidery and this topping is one of the first things I find essential on some types of fabrics, especially those with a high pile or texture. Most of it comes off easily after embroidering, but the rest has to be washed off with water. It is very sticky when wet but dissolves completely. It's not as easy to use as I'd like as it's very thin and sticky, but I find floating on a hoop works best for me. I took the suggestion of dissolving the excess pieces in hot water, I put it in a spray bottle and found it worked well to stiffen the fabric.
