I love Solvi!

If you sew or mend, you need this! I've been using Solvy for years - a 9 yard roll lasts almost forever because it can be cut into small, narrow pieces to fit under your machine's needle. If the fabric is not compatible with your machine, place a piece of Solvy about 2 inches wide of the desired length under the fabric. Not suitable for hand embroidery

I saw some of Sulky's recommendations for embroidering detailed designs and decided to give it a try. The material was very similar to saran wrap - stuck to itself, difficult to lay flat, could only be written on with permanent marker, etc - but I was kind of expecting it. When it came time to embroider there was no adhesion to the fabric. I tried pinning it but it was difficult to pin it completely flat and it was too loose to show exactly what I was trying to stitch. Does the job

I'm just getting into machine embroidery and this topping is one of the first things I find essential on some types of fabrics, especially those with a high pile or texture. Most of it comes off easily after embroidering, but the rest has to be washed off with water. It is very sticky when wet but dissolves completely.
