This cable replaces the old cable and works much better. I am using a Macbook Pro with two external monitors. Macs often had problems with flickering screens when waking up from sleep with an old cable. Sometimes I had to turn off all the screens and fiddle around to get everything working properly. Sometimes the screen would flicker with the older cable or the cable would lose connection at the end of the monitor even when blocked by the display port. The new cable works perfectly, never flickers or loses connection even though it doesn't have a display port blocker. Maybe a better quality plug doesn't need a lock to work well. The cable looks very well made.
