Simple, low-tech and functional. IT WORKS OUT!

Our new cat ruined our couch! Yes we bought him his own scratching post which he uses and seems to like. He also frequently scratches the thick Persian rug we have (which is normal since the rug is so thick that his claws don't work). which is also good, because this sofa is so old and shabby that its days are already ending. But even with all these other spots to scratch, he still insists on scratching our beautiful, expensive sofa! We tried everything to dissuade him. First I yelled at him and tried to scare him while he scratched on that couch. He ran away when I screamed. but then he seemed to forget about this unpleasant event and started scratching the sofa again! Then we tried water guns. I felt bad about it - it's mean - but we tried anyway. When he scratched the sofa, we shot him with water. He hated it and ran away, but again - the next day he started scratching the couch again! We tasted bad smell. It didn't bother him at all. Finally, in desperation, I tried these furniture scratch guards. I didn't expect them to work. Voila! The problem is solved! So basically it's four pieces of thick plastic, about 11 inches by 4.5 inches, with thin metal screws screwed into them. You attach the plastic to where the cat will scratch—usually the corner of the sofa—and fasten it with thin metal screws (which won't damage the sofa). That's all! The cat tries to scratch but can't scratch the slippery plastic, so it soon gives up and goes somewhere else. You are almost invisible on the couch. (The only issue I had was that there was very little padding just under the corners of our sofa, so there was nowhere for the screws to go. I somehow nailed them to the wood under the fabric. It worked.) That is the best product: simple, low-tech and above all FUNCTIONAL! Recommend!
