I found this stand to be much stronger and more durable than the plastic models, some of which I broke. I've had this metal stand since February and it's holding up great. For the record, I have to say that I use it in an unusual way. I like to use it to pick up my laptop when it's actually on my lap so I don't have to bend my neck too much to see the screen. It does wonders for my posture. Many people use it on a desk or desk and it works well there too, but I've noticed that the stand tends to slide on the tabletop. This can be remedied by buying some furniture felt pads and wrapping them around the steel at the bottom of the uprights. It's not the most attractive solution, but it helps stop slipping. I have never had a problem with my computer overheating since I bought this device. It keeps everything cool and well ventilated.
