A bit big, very bright, but also flexible and beautiful with the right tools

After listening to these headphones for a week, I still have a little doubt about their correctness. Sometimes I love them, but often depending on the song it hurts to listen. I mean when connected directly to an iPhone most music coming from iems has a piercing high frequency that makes it impossible to hear at a sufficient volume. As a result, bass and mids are too quiet. No equalizer adjustments in the native Apple Music app can fix this enough to be tolerable. I got around this by just using Spotify as the equalizer is more detailed. I have to cut 15kHz quite sharply and this allows me to hear and enjoy a lot more songs. At this point in some songs iems sound amazing. However, some genres like rock and metal sound dull and lacking in detail. It's tedious to adjust the equalizer every other song. For this reason I only give ZSX 3 stars. I've also used the ZSX in my Roland td-11kv electronic drum kit. The same story with sharp points. I cut off the highs, and it's not perfect, but it allows me to appreciate the booming bass and amazingly clean mids. As far as electronic drums go, I still love the ZSX, but I'll still be looking for something better in the future. In general, the ZSX is good if: A: You're not sensitive to hard tops; Spotify EQ (or other software/hardware) C: Is there a way to save the equalizer settings for each song? Update: It's only been about two months since my purchase and the cable is already failing. It randomly triggers the play/pause button, making it impossible to listen to music on the phone with these headphones. I've had this with cheap Apple headphones, but never so quickly.

Pros
  • Nice to use
Cons
  • A bit of maintainability
