I've tried these pens for many years because I love how easy they go. However, they become unusable after a few uses as they cannot be sharpened. I have knitted Maybelline sharpeners and many expensive and cheap sharpeners. The colored part always breaks off before it sharpens and breaks in the wooden part leaving a hole. This indicates that it originally had an empty space. You keep trying to sharpen it and the same thing happens until it becomes a burr. I tried sharpening at different temperatures. If it is too warm, ie in the summer it does not work at all (and never leave it in the car, otherwise it will melt). Putting it in the fridge seems to work best. Sometimes you can nail it, but then it leaves a long sliver at your tip so it's still useless. Bottom line: a good pencil, but don't plan on sharpening it. this is more than the minimum number of times.
