I bought this to experiment with homemade energy gel formulations. and seems to be doing its job. Most energy gels used by endurance athletes are based on maltodextrin, which is simply a group of glucose molecules linked together in a polymer chain. That's what this thing is. Available as a white powder. It's quite high in sugar, but not as sweet as the regular table sugar you're used to. Through trial and error I was able to make some pretty decent gels out of this stuff. You MUST find a sweetener that you like as it's not particularly sweet and can be a bit bland in flavor if you don't flavor it. In order to get the gel with the desired viscosity, you can't add much water. Ideally, you're trying to make the formula isotonic so that it gets absorbed into your system as quickly as possible and upsets your stomach as little as possible. In any case, this is very important. The jar is HUGE and will last forever considering how little I use it for each formula.
