The flat plug is designed in such a way that it does not allow the use of bulky cables that need to be plugged into the socket at the same time (eg. a hair dryer or something with a cord hanging down). So you have to pull the strip out to use the hair dryer as the surge protector can't safely handle the amount of current the hair dryer requires (found this out the hard way after being quickly dissuaded by the burning smell of the surge protector this practice). In addition, the tight design of the strip favors a slight tangle of cables and depending on the devices used, one or more sockets can sometimes not be used. Everything else works as it should with no electrical issues.
