Review on DEFY BAGS Insidious Sling Canvas by Danielle Landry

Awesome Durable Large Sling

This is a unique sling. It's taller than most lines, so it's probably better for larger frames. I'm 6 inches tall, 240 pounds and it sits very comfortably on my back. The materials are clearly very high quality and I love that the bag is designed and manufactured entirely in the USA. The shoulder pad is long and very comfortable on my shoulder/chest. The bag is divided into two compartments; a slightly narrower back compartment and a larger main compartment at the front. There is also a small front pocket. The bag is very spacious and can fit a 32 ounce water bottle, a towel or whatever else you want to take with you. I find this bag too big to use if I'm just running errands. (I use Alpaca Go Sling Pro for this). Due to my limited use I have found this bag to be best for a full day of exploring the city or going to the beach etc. I bought both the waxed canvas and the limited edition camo cordura version from Defy and while I liked the waxed canvas feel I ended up returning it and keeping the cordura as it is lighter which is important as I will be packing it in my suitcase to use as a day carrier at my destination. As for using a tech bag, I didn't find it ideal, but doable. There are two pockets in the back compartment, which makes even the large pocket too small for large tablets. If you're using an iPad mini, this would be ideal. But I'm using a 12.9-inch iPad Pro and need to put the iPad in a compartment, not in my bag. The reason this is not ideal is because the back of the belt has padding but no padding on the sides or bottom. Because of this, I had to purchase a separate case to provide additional protection for the iPad. It works, but you have to open two zippers instead of one to get to the iPad, and it also takes up more room in the bag. However, the café is quite suitable for excursions. Aside from the extra padding, I would also like softer material on the inside, especially in the back compartment and front pocket. The material on the inside is the same as the material on the outside, so my Cordura version feels a bit rough and scratchy on the inside, although canvas is slightly better. Overall this is a very high quality and roomy sling with a durable look. and excellent durability. This is the type of bag that's perfect when you want to carry around and have easy access to your belongings, but don't have enough stuff to justify a backpack. While it's very versatile, it's not for everyone. If you have a smaller frame it may seem too big like a sling but if it fits in your back it is very comfortable. Oh, and I'm still getting used to that buckle system. My previous sling was the Chrome Kadet which used a webbing buckle. I find the seat belt style a bit easier to put on and take off without looking at it, but the buckle on the Defy is very nice and I'm sure I'll get used to it over time. It's amazing to see companies that are still alive. Sticking to the old-school Made in America philosophy, but combining it with the benefits of modern technology and materials. I will continue to use this bag and will update this review over time. But for now I can definitely recommend this bag.
