Bought to replace a 12 year old faulty 650w PSU. The symptoms that gave it away were: - Random shutdown when running graphic (or compute intensive) games - Requires unplugging power button on back of PSU to reset PROS: - 80+ Platinum - Fully modular (Mobo, CPU, 2x VGA , 3x SATA, 1 peripheral) - All cables are labeled on the terminals - All cables are braided (black) - Includes bag for storing unused parts - Includes self-tester (closed jumper on the motherboard) - 10 year guarantee CONS: - The ECO mode is not designed for gaming (which constantly requires drastic increases and decreases in performance) - see below! -- The included mobo cable is a bit shorter than I would like. I have noticed decent heat generation from my computer for the past 2 years and I have attributed this to the powerful graphics card installed. in order to. I now believe this was due to the inefficiency of my old PSU. As the poor thing got old, it became terribly inefficient, turning electricity into heat instead of energy. Because. This new 80+ Platinum Pack just runs MUCH COOLER on my computer (and it's the only thing that's changed recently). In fact, my computer fans blow cold air (rather than warm) which cools the entire room. It's hard to say, but I think it's worth the $20 increase over the very comparable EVGA G3 Gold 650W (which is an excellent PSU in its own right - if you can't afford it, get the G3 ). The only drawback is the eco mode. In theory, this should mean lower overall power consumption and a quieter build. In fact, it works great as long as you don't need extra juice. This power supply just can't always keep the switches fast enough. In eco mode, you switch off from time to time. This is a star deduction just because YOU DON'T NEED ECO MODE! This feed is so efficient and the fan profile is so well done that it is still very quiet in normal operation. There can be some notable differences. So just leave it OFF and you'll be fine.
