Size XS is perfect for our 4 month old kitten. The seams and the material are very well made. The harness fits like a sling under his stomach, making it secure enough that he can't wriggle out while still being comfortable and easy to move around. The only downside is that the leash attachment point on the leash is a leash that sticks out a few inches to the rear once closed. It looks a little weird when you take the leash off and he won't sit still because he's trying to reach out and chase after you. Also, I'm worried that it will snag and get stuck when crawling under a chokepoint. Because of this, we can never just take the leash off and leave only the harness, so we'll probably buy him something else when he grows up. But overall we were happy with the safety, fit and comfort as a foundation for leash training. For reference, it's grown from 2.8 pounds to 5.4 pounds and is just enlarging from its tightest fit. If you are buying for a cat and not a dog I would recommend going down a size
