Review on Cooler Hinge Solution: Coleman Cooler Hinges for Durable and Reliable Performance by David Cook

right part. Has new screws. Light!

(I bought mine from Revain.com as a supplier by the way). They sent the part needed, two plastic Coleman loops, in a sealed Coleman 4 color bag with a separate mini zip. Bag inside with screws inside. (As advertised - eight screws, that's what you need for installation, I have ten [!] in my bag - two extra.) They mounted well. What else do you want to know? Very easy! But wait. I REALLY have something to share! These screws were screwed into the plastic at the factory. In other words, the plastic was molded with a screw hole but no thread. The thread for the screw was made by the screw itself biting into the plastic in the hole. When removing the old screws, the thread is retained. However, if you simply insert and screw in a new screw, it is likely to create new threads in the hole that intersect the old threads, essentially expanding the old hole into a larger hole. Not good, how to avoid it? Simply place a screw on the end of your (in this case a Phillips) screwdriver and gently insert the tip of the screw into the screw hole. Then, applying light pressure (with a screwdriver), slowly turn the screw counterclockwise until you hear or feel a slight "click" and stop turning the screw at that point. The "click" is the threads of the screw meeting the threads of the hole made by the previous screw. Then turn the screw clockwise. When using this method, use already made threads instead of cutting new ones. Be careful not to overtighten the screw as you are screwing in relatively soft plastic. Incidentally, this is the process of threading screws back into holes that were self-tapping screws in any material, be it a $40 cooler, a $2,000 laser printer, or a car. BTW, I don't know if you get all the extra screws. But I will say that providing an extra screw or two is a method used by companies that have their customers in mind. This reduces, if not eliminates, the chances of your customers incorrectly covering the number of fasteners and helps them if they lose one while using a replacement part. Maybe it was an anomaly with my backpack, but while I didn't need it, I appreciated the extra.
