A great tool to reduce cable clutter in the home office.

For software developers working from home, clutter is a constant problem. I have a cable management system to hide cables for a multi-monitor setup, power cords, USB ports, instrument cables, and so on. These cable management systems are great, but I still have an unsightly power cord running from the wall to my desk. This outlet solves that problem. The installation is quite easy. It's just a glorified vessel, so minimal DIY skills are required to set it up (YouTube is your friend!). That being said, having an electrician install it may not be that expensive if you go this route. I have access to a subfloor for my setup, so all I had to do was find the right spot under my desk, trace the electrical box, and cut a hole out of the basement. There was already electrical wiring underneath, so I just hooked it up and followed the diagram to hook it up. The socket does exactly what it is supposed to. Now there are no more power cords running from the wall to my desk, and I have access to a few more USB charging ports. I think the hinge needs a little work as it lifts and closes fine, but only after a few cycles. I suspect it's due to a little rubbing of the components together. In my scenario, I almost always leave the popup open, so it's not a factor, but something to be aware of if you're just installing it. I am very pleased with how this outlet looks, works and is easy to install.
