I recently bought an Oakcastle CD-100 Retro player for its size and bluetooth connection to my car and was very happy with the quality and the 3 year guarantee. So I thought the BX200 Boombox was worth trying, maybe as a gift for a young man as it comes in multiple colors. However, I chose black. Attractive packaging with foam protection. I really like the red display - it's easy to read and the six multifunction buttons make it easy to use overall. For example, the on/off button also operates the modes: Auxiliary connection, CD, FM and Bluetooth. You just have to remember to hold down this button to turn it off. If you just press/release it will switch from CD to FM and static can be annoying when you're not on a station. It also has a headphone jack and a USB port which I will mention later. It has a 14-page instruction manual that covers all the bells and whistles. Some of these may be less obvious without guidance. The main downside for me is the FM radio controls. I don't like having to scan and tune everything it can find - in my case around 22 stations and I'm only listening to maybe 5. I can't figure out how to reset all the presets, if that's even possible. The user manual doesn't explain how to tune in stations manually, but doesn't say anything about deleting presets. If FM was key for me I would give it 4 stars. While they say to turn off the volume before using the headphones, it seems to start at a lower volume no matter where it was last set when you first turned it on. Prevents eardrums from bursting when switching from speakers to headphones. While it's not a claimed feature, I like it. I play a CD from start to finish so I don't use the shuffle or repeat features, but the CD has some of those features that you wouldn't expect from a unit at this price point. It takes about 12-15 seconds to play. LOAD the CD and get started. It's okay, but a slightly faster start was expected! Also, no ASP (shock protection) is claimed for CDs like the CD-100 "Walkmanβ. However, I'm happy to see that when I'm wearing this BX-200 and flipping the device over, the CD doesn't skip. The sound quality is good considering the price and the size of the speakers. Even cheap headphones sound good. I tried it with my Bose QC15 noise canceling headphones and WOW great sound. I don't use Bluetooth headphones so I don't see this as a downside due to the lack of output support for those. Just to test all the features, I plugged an old Zen Nano into the BX-200's Aux input via the headphone output and it sounds. also very good. Not like Bose, of course, but on par with CDs through the speakers. Then, while listening to a CD, I plugged the flash drive into the USB port and it started playing MP3 files on this unit. Well! The same sound quality through the speakers, although I had to turn the volume up to the max. Although I don't need it for Bluetooth, I tried this feature to see if it would connect easily to my car and if it sounded as good as a CD. -100 via the car's audio system. I couldn't connect even though the device said it was recognized as a phone that needed a PIN code. GHOST! Just as the BX-200 doesn't send OUTPUT to headphones via Bluetooth, it obviously doesn't play a CD through car speakers in the same way. Since new cars haven't had CD players for years, get an OakCastle CD-100 if you need that option. I quickly connected it to my Android phone and input music on the BX-200. Bluetooth input works great! It weighs 2 lb 14 oz without D batteries, adding about an extra pound with batteries. Much lighter than the old ghetto blasters, but nothing to carry around like a Walkman. Haven't used it long enough to test battery life but would lean towards using rechargeable ones. I will be using it primarily in my garage connected to AC with the included cord - no adapter needed. Or on deck from batteries. It's not something you can walk around with like the CD-100, but it's very light and has a very different purpose. Bottom line: a multifunctional compact device with many listening options. Therefore, it is not only recommended for children, but also for those who have a CD collection, especially for those who like to listen to them in a portable way.
