As an ornithologist and target shooter, I had two concerns when deciding to purchase this scope; First, it won't be able to focus at close enough distance, and second, it won't be strong enough. My first concern was that I wanted to get a close-up of the birds coming to our main feeding station, which is only 25 feet from our window (I have a 20x telescope and it can't focus that close). My second concern was that I would sometimes shoot at targets as far as 100 yards away, and I saw some 60x scopes that weren't sharp enough for the job - some of them were virtually useless at higher magnifications. Don't worry, this little Roxant scope performs like a champ. This minimum focusing distance is about 21 feet, bringing the birds closer. And the field of view is large enough to see the entire feeder even at high magnifications. As far as there's enough power to see targets at 100 yards, the optics are so good that the 36x magnification gives a sharp and clear image that outperforms many of the 60x scopes I've seen. I think the fully coated BAK4 optics really pay off. I'm really impressed with the build quality, the controls are smooth, positive and easy to use. A small, sturdy tripod comes in handy when shooting from a bench. I have a large camera tripod that I use for bird watching and the Roxant with its standard camera mount screws right onto it. I've lost a few lens caps over the years and appreciate how the front cap is attached to this scope so it's handy and can't be lost. I review my purchases and consider what size to buy. I didn't want to pay a fortune, but I wanted something that would work. I know I made the right choice with this little scope.
