I've used cheaper cables before but you can't match the durability and reliability of Tether Tools' TetherPro cables. Do yourself a favor and just get it. Plus, the bright orange color makes it less likely to be stepped on. Also, in case you step on it, buy a tether stopper or block to protect your camera's USB port from damage.
