Works great with my 2017 MacBook Pro 15" and Dell 2007FP monitor - 1600 x 1200 @ 60Hz Actual maximum resolution of the adapter is probably 1920x 1200 at 60 Hz, which is single-link DVI. From my research: USB-C to DVI cannot be a passive adapter. "DisplayPort Alternate Mode" (ie DisplayPort over USB-C) does NOT include "DisplayPort Dual Mode (DP++)" (ie DVI over DisplayPort). Wikipedia explains it. Hence these cables/adapters have chips that somehow convert the signal. The cable accepts DisplayPort alternate mode input from a computer and outputs a DVI single link output. Obviously this is a complex process and not all adapters are created equal. Cable Matters is a fairly reputable brand that gets the job done. This has little to do with Thunderbolt 3 or 4 or USB 4, except that these ports (at least on the MacBook Pro) also support the "DisplayPort Alternate Mode" protocol. Excerpts from System Information.app:Graphics/Displays ->. Obviously this will not work with your display Apple Cinema and it is in the description. It also doesn't work with monitors that require dual-link DVI (see above), at least not at 60Hz.
