Works with 2017 MacBook Pro and Dell 1600 x 1200 Monitor

Works great with my 2017 MacBook Pro 15" and Dell 2007FP monitor - 1600 x 1200 @ 60Hz Actual maximum resolution of the adapter is probably 1920x 1200 at 60 Hz, which is single-link DVI. From my research: USB-C to DVI cannot be a passive adapter. "DisplayPort Alternate Mode" (ie DisplayPort over USB-C) does NOT include "DisplayPort Dual Mode (DP++)" (ie DVI over DisplayPort). Wikipedia explains it. Hence these cables/adapters have chips that somehow convert the signal. The cable accepts DisplayPort alternate mode input from a computer and outputs a DVI single link output. Obviously this is a complex process and not all adapters are created equal. Cable Matters is a fairly reputable brand that gets the job done. This has little to do with Thunderbolt 3 or 4 or USB 4, except that these ports (at least on the MacBook Pro) also support the "DisplayPort Alternate Mode" protocol. Excerpts from System Information.app:Graphics/Displays ->. Connection Type: DVI or HDMI Adapter Firmware Version: e.1dUSB ->.billboard: Product ID: 0x5452 Vendor ID: 0x0bda (Realtek Semiconductor Corp.) Version: 9.02 Serial Number: 123456789ABCDEFGH Speed: Up to 12 Mbps Manufacturer: Cable ID Matters Inc. Locations: 0x14400000 / 11 Current Available (mA): 500 Current Required (mA): 500 Additional Operating Current (mA): 0 (Yes, valid with this fake serial number.) Obviously this will not work with your display Apple Cinema and it is in the description. It also doesn't work with monitors that require dual-link DVI (see above), at least not at 60Hz.

Pros
  • Good build
Cons
  • Protection
