Review on ASICS GT 2000 Lightning Black Men's Running Shoes by Rob Allen

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I like them better than the GT-21xx series -- Your mileage may vary

The ASICS GT-21xx series (2100 to 2170) is one of the best-selling running shoes in the world. I used to have a pair of GT-2120, two pair of 2150 and two pair of 2170 and loved them. I'm 50 male, about 160 pounds and use them for road running including several marathons and half marathons as well as shorter distances. This is the fourth pair of GT-2000's I've bought in just over a year. Year(*). The first pair retired after about 500 miles and the second pair is approaching the 400 mile mark. Pair #3 is my current shoe for long training runs and pair #4 I bought for the 2014 Boston Marathon. Aside from the numbering, ASICS changed a few things on the GT-2000. I know a lot of 21xx fans don't like the changes, but I really like them. The shoe is a bit lighter and has a lower heel, but the most noticeable thing for me is the slightly lower cut around the ankle, reduced lining and heel support. For me, the less-chunky heel counter makes the shoe even lighter than it actually is and also gives it a much more flexible feel, while still offering good support and cushioning in the sole for moderate overpronators like me. I'm just lucky. During the summer of 2012 I worked on improving my technique by shortening my stride, increasing my cadence and landing on the midsole more than before. ASICS released the GT-2000 in Fall 2012, and the shoe changes seemed to match my fit changes perfectly. I still need stability control but not as much assist or really the MAXIMUM that I had in my old 2160s. Now when I put my 2160s on, they feel like blocks. One thing I don't like about the GT-2000 compared to the GT-21xx series is the toe box, which is definitely present in the GT-2000. . For the first few months in the GT-2000 I had problems with flattening my fingers during/after long runs, especially my 4th toe. I've now found that I can usually avoid this problem by making sure my socks are as smooth as possible around my toes and not over-tightening the bottom of the laces. It works, but I would have preferred a slightly larger toe cap. Overall I think the GT-2000 is a real winner! (*) All these GT-2000 are the first iteration released in October 2012. , not v2 which was released about a year later.
