These lights on the hood are perfect for my aquarium as the tank was originally a watercolor kit. Unfortunately, their value has gone down over the years. At the moment I buy one hood mount a year for a 55 gallon tank requiring two of these which usually sell for $50 each. They are not designed to encourage easy do-it-yourself fixes. It seems something always goes wrong, I know for sure that in one instance something shorted out and smoked in the ballast. I just opened up my new replacement today, and what do you know, the part that holds the bulb in place wasn't even properly attached to the hood on one side, so I have a bulb that's almost hanging out of the hood (it looks like it was held in place with glue and not screws, although those screws are present on the other side, which are clearly meant to be screwed into the hood). It's amazing that I change out these rotten things once a year, and I can't even get one of these junk hunks out of the box in near-perfect condition. It's rare that just one lightbulb needs replacing, and it's crazy that lightbulbs last longer than faucets. At this point I've been through enough to realize that this is nowhere near a quality product. I highly recommend looking elsewhere unless you're willing to throw your money away.
